Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Bill Herring played most of his career in small southern loops. He was in the Piedmont League in 1936-1937 and the Coastal Plain League in 1938-1939. He led the Coastal Plain with 249 IP in 1938 and 22 wins and 33 CG in 1939. In January of 1940 he was declared a free agent by Judge Bramham due to Kinston releasing him and failing to report it on time.[1] Herring had been slated to manage Kinston in 1940, but instead pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers (AA) and Montreal Royals. He returned to the Coastal Plain in 1941 and the Bi-State League in 1941.
Herring was also the Athletic Director and baseball coach at Atlantic Christian College by 1939.
Herring later scouted for the New York Mets from 1965 to 1973.
