Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Greenfield played in Germany and for the Irish national team before becoming a coach.
He had a 2.79 ERA as a high school senior, fanning 52 in 42 2/3 IP. [1] He was 1-4 with a 6.69 ERA as a freshman in college then fell to 0-5, 11.93 as a sophomore. He rebounded to 4-1 with a save and a 6.68 ERA as a junior and kept improving as a senior, to 2-1, 4.98 with three saves, walking only 8 in 47 IP. He then played for the Regensburg Legionäre in Germany in 2018, posting a 5-3, 3.64 record with 96 K:15 BB in 81 2/3 innings. He was second in the southern Bundesliga-1 in strikeouts (13 behind Michael Click), 8th in wins, 3rd in IP (behind Connor Little and Jan Tomek), missed the top 10 in ERA by .05, 3rd in K:BB ratio (after Mike Bolsenbroek and Click), 6th in K/IP (between Gianfranco Rizzo and R.J. Hively), 7th in WHIP (between Brendan Hornung and Rizzo) and 9th in opponent OPS (630, between Tomek and Rizzo). [2]
With Ireland for the 2018 C-Level European Championship (Ireland having long relied on Irish-Americans for their team), he was perfect through five innings against Finland (fanning nine) before Sean McNamara closed it out (the no-hit and perfect game bid ended). He tied for fourth in the event in Ks. [3] Returning to Regensburg for 2019, he had a 7-2, 3.67 record but fell to 0-2, 5.40 with a save in the postseason. In the regular season, he was tied for third in complete games (4, even with Darren Lauer), tied Tomas Ondra for 6th in IP (76), was 8th in K (92) and tied for 6th in wins. [4]
He was an Inside Sales Representative for Professional Sports Publications then became development coach of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in 2022. [5]
