Biographical Information[edit]

Bertil Haage pitched for the Dutch national team for a decade.

Haage was with the Netherlands for the 1973 FIBA Amateur World Series, 1975 European Championship (Silver Medal) and 1977 European Championship (Silver); in 1977, he also was named best pitcher in the event. [1] He was 2-1 for the Netherlands in the 1978 Amateur World Series, allowing one unearned run only in 8 2/3 IP (4 H, 6 BB, 4 K); the rest of the staff was 2-5, 6.72. He joined Rogelio García and Michele Romano in posting 0.00 ERAs in the event. [2]

He also pitched in the 1979 European Championship (Silver), 1980 Amateur World Series, 1981 European Championship (Gold) and 1982 Amateur World Series. [3] Most of his Dutch career was not spent in the Hoofdklasse as he spent his entire career with the Tex Town Tigers (which mostly were at a lower level, except for one season). His brother Erik also played for the Tigers and his daughter Famke played softball. [4] He was once offered a deal by the San Francisco Giants but turned them down. [5] In 2018, he was knighted. [6] He was an elementary school principal after baseball. [7]
