Biographical Information[edit]
Charles Albert "Bert" Dorr pitched eight games for the St. Louis Brown Stockings in 1882. His ERA looked reasonably good, especially given that he was 20 years old, but the Brown Stockings made major changes to its pitching staff the next year - bringing in Tony Mullane to pitch over half of the team's total innings - and Dorr was not on the team.
He was in the minors, splitting his time between two teams in the Interstate Association.
According to Major League Baseball Profiles: 1871-1900, Bert pitched for the Foley club before coming to the majors in 1882. A note in Sporting Life dated June 25, 1884 stated that Dorr was going to be tried by the "Domestics" (presumably the Newark Domestics).
