The Newark Domestics were members of the 1884 and 1885 Eastern League.
In 1884, the club went 40-43 under manager Dave Pierson, 6th in the circuit. OF-3B John Coogan led the league with 128 hits and also posted the best average (.375); he scored 95 times in 84 games. Con Murphy split the season between Newark and Trenton and went 21-14 with a 1.51 ERA, leading the league in victories.
In 1885, the Domestics were managed by John Farrow and Charlie Hackett, and went 42-49. Harry Pyle split the season between Newark and the Richmond Virginians and led the league in Wins. 19-year-old pitcher Phenomenal Smith was also a member of that team.
