Biographical information[edit]

Ben Copeland played in the minor leagues from 2005 to 2012.

Prior to playing professionally, he attended Bradford High School and the University of Pittsburgh. With the University of Pittsburgh in 2003, he hit .303 with 17 stolen bases in 52 games. He hit .332 with 37 stolen bases in 2004 with them, and in 2005 he hit .384 with nine home runs and 29 stolen bases.

Copeland was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2005 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Sean O'Connor and began his professional career that year, playing for the AZL Giants and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, hitting a combined .315 with nine doubles, six triples and five home runs in 47 games. With the Augusta Greenjackets in 2006, he hit .281 with 30 stolen bases and 12 triples in 135 games, and with the San Jose Giants in 2007, he hit .280 with 14 stolen bases in 106 games. He split the 2008 season between the Connecticut Defenders and Fresno Grizzlies, hitting a combined .276 with 24 stolen bases and 13 triples in 125 games. The Oakland Athletics took him in that year's Rule 5 Draft.

He began the 2009 season with the Stockton Ports and also played for the Sacramento River Cats, Fresno Grizzlies and San Jose Giants, hitting a combined .282 with 15 stolen bases and 106 hits in 106 games. He was returned to the Giants system in mid-May. In 2010, he hit .280 with 23 stolen bases and 8 triples in 102 games for Fresno. The Giants released him in March 2011 and he signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League. After hitting .331 in 42 games with them, the Cleveland Indians signed him and he played for their affiliates, the Akron Aeros and Columbus Clippers. Overall, he hit .285 with 10 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 102 games. In 2012, he hit .199 with 12 stolen bases in 56 games between Akron and Columbus.

Overall, Copeland hit .277 with 790 hits and 138 stolen bases in 804 games over 8 seasons.
