Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Beamer Weems played in the San Diego Padres system from 2008 to 2012, the Texas Rangers system in 2015 and in independent ball from 2015 to 2017. He spent part or all of three seasons at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.
He was originally taken by the Padres in the 8th round of the 2008 amateur draft, one pick after infielder Eric Campbell, and was signed by scout Tim Holt. By his second season, 2009, he was already in Triple-A—if only for a game—and he managed a .402 on-base percentage in 109 games overall. His 76 walks were second in the California League, behind just Danny Payne's 79. After a couple offensively poor seasons at Double-A—including 2010, when he slashed .149/.200/.223 in 30 games—he returned to Triple-A for the whole of 2012, hitting .241/.305/.351 in 75 games for the Tucson Padres. He was injured for all of 2013 and was released in 2014. He began 2015 in indy ball, hitting .308/.380/.474 in 36 games for the Sugar Land Skeeters, before being signed by the Rangers in June. He spent the rest of the year in Texas' system, hitting .231/.297/.335 in 62 games. He returned to independent ball in 2016 and 2017 to wrap up his career.
Overall, Weems hit .235/.341/.350 with 19 home runs and 149 RBI in the affiliated minors and .244/.311/.356 with 7 home runs and 43 RBI in 130 Triple-A games. In independent ball, he hit .258/.328/.374 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI in 224 games. Overall, he batted .244/.336/.359 in 604 games over eight seasons. He was a California League Post-Season All-Star in 2009.
