Barrie Bahnert was an Olympic player.

Bahnert was with the Australian national team for the 1985 Intercontinental Cup and 1988 Olympics. When the Australian Baseball League was formed in 1989-1990, he hit .245/.327/.408 for the Adelaide Giants. He batted .270/.289/.459 in 1990-1991 then .326/.363/.565 with 29 runs, 29 RBI and 21 extra-base hits in 44 games in 1991-1992. In 1991-1992, he was second in extra-base hits, one behind Melvin Wearing, and was 4th in slugging, trailing Tony Adamson, Paul Gorman and Brian Murphy. He was named one of the league's All-Star outfielders, along with Damon Buford and Brian Kowitz.

His production fell off in 1992-1993 (.282/.325/.462) but improved in 1993-1994 at age 32. He hit .288/.327/.571 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI in 52 contests. He tied three others for 5th in the ABL in RBI, behind Adamson, Jay Kirkpatrick, Dave Nilsson and Greg Jelks. He was a first-team All-Star outfielder again, this time joined by Curtis Goodwin and Leon Glenn. In his final season, 1994-1995, the old-timer batted only .193/.296/.307.

Overall, Bahnert hit .271 and slugged .473 in 235 games in the ABL, with 107 runs, 136 RBI and 81 of his 188 hits going for extra bases (all doubles or homers).
