Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Barrett Astin appeared in the 2012 College World Series with the University of Arkansas. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 3rd round of the 2013 amateur draft. On August 31, 2014, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds with Kevin Shackelford in return for reliever Jonathan Broxton.

Barrett made his major league debut with the Reds on Opening Day, April 3, 2017, pitching a third of an inning in relief against the Philadelphia Phillies, replacing Scott Feldman with two outs in the top of the 5th. The first batter he faced, Maikel Franco, reached on an error by shortstop Zack Cozart, but he then forced Michael Saunders to ground out to first to end the inning. In 8 big league innings, he posted a 6.75 ERA. He was last spotted pitching for the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association in 2018.
