Biographical Information[edit]

B.R. Cook pitched in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1999 to 2004. He briefly reached Triple-A in 2003.

He was originally taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 42nd round of the 1996 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after St. Louis took him in the 3rd round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of All-Star Hank Blalock and in the same round as future MVP Justin Morneau.

Cook began his career with a 5-1 mark and a 2.84 ERA in 9 games (8 starts) for the New Jersey Cardinals in 1999, but never posted a winning record after that. In 2000, he was 5-11, in 2001, he was 9-10, in 2002, he was 7-13, in 2003 he was 1-1 and in 2004, he was 0-0. In 2003, he reached Triple-A for the only time in his career, making 13 relief appearances there; his ERA was 9.31 and he walked 14 batters to just 7 strikeouts.

Overall, Cook went 27-36 with a 4.16 ERA in 136 games (92 starts) over six seasons. In 578 1/3 innings, he allowed 574 hits and 245 walks (1.416 WHIP), while striking out 412 batters.
