Biographical Information[edit]

Atsuki Taneichi has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Taneichi was drafted by the Chiba Lotte Marines in the sixth round of the 2016 NPB draft, and he spent his rookie year in the NPB Farm Leagues[1] Taneichi represented Japan in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup, and pitched 7 games with a 6.10 ERA for the big club in 2018. He was 0-3 with a 4.56 ERA for the Auckland Tuatara in the 2018-2019 Australian Baseball League. He broke out in 2019, and tied the NPB record held by Yutaka Enatsu and Isamu Kida by collecting at least one strikeout in 23 straight innings. He ended up 8-2 with a 3.24 ERA.

Unfortunately, Taneichi underwent Tommy John surgery in the middle of the 2020 season, so he missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons.[2] The Aomori native came back in 2023, and recorded a 10-7 record with a 3.42 ERA. He collected a career-high 157 strikeouts, and ranked 2nd in the Pacific League, 12 behind triple crown winner Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Taneichi also relieved Naoyuki Uwasawa and pitched a shutout inning in 2023 NPB All-Star Game 2.[3] He was the starter for the Marines in Game 4 of the 2023 PLCS against the Orix Buffaloes, but he allowed a 2-run homer to Tomoya Mori and got the loss. The Marines were also eliminated from the postseason.

Taneichi's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 95 mph), curve and forkball.
