Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Antoine Kelly was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2nd round of the 2019 amateur draft from Wabash Valley College; a year earlier, coming out of high school, he had been picked in the 13th round of the 2018 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, but had not signed.
In his first professional season in 2019, he played for the AZL Brewers Blue and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League, combining to go 0-1, 2.84 in 10 starts, totaling 21 2/3 innings. He was then forced to take a break in 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic shut down the minor leagues, but in 2021 it was injuries that limited his playing time to 10 games, with the same two teams as in 2019 but also with the Carolina Mudcats of the Low-A East. In all, he pitched just 19 1/3 innings, going 0-2, 9.78. That made him a mystery man heading into 2022, in spite of his recent high draft status, given he had barely 40 innings of professional baseball under his belt in three years, with very mixed results. However, he pitched very well with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League, going 2-4, 3.86 in 19 starts, with 119 strikeouts in 91 innings. He was named to the National League team for the 2022 Futures Game. On August 2nd, he joined Mark Mathias in being traded to the Texas Rangers in return for Matt Bush as the Brewers complety re-tooled their bullpen at the trading deadline. The Rangers assigned him to the Down East Wood Ducks of the Carolina League, keeping him in High-A.
