Anthony Yatar Jr.

Biographical Information

Anthony Yatar Jr. was on the Guam national team that won Gold in the 2005 South Pacific Mini-Games. In the 2011 Pacific Games, Guam won Silver and Yatar made several appearances. Against Fiji, he pinch-hit for Jim Reyes and singled off Sanail Colainima to score Thomas Sarmiento; he then stole second. He stayed in at first base but did not get to bat again. He closed out Guam's win over the champion Northern Mariana Islands, relieving Tommy Morrison with a 6-5 lead. Juan Maratita greeted him with a single and Jerome De Los Santos laid down a bunt. He walked Manuel Sablan Jr. intentionally then retired Byron Kaipat on a fly. He struck out Keoni Lizama to get the save. It was one of only two saves in the Games; Morrison had the other one. He started at DH against American Samoa. He singled off Louis Solaita, stole a base and scored, then was retired by Solaita the next time up. John Salas then batted for him. Only Sarmiento had a higher average in the event, though neither played enough to qualify for the batting title.
