Biographical Information

Anthony Cros has played for the French national team. He is the brother of national team member Gregory Cros. Anthony was the third French player to sign with a US pro team.

Early Life

Cros played soccer for seven years with a team in Montpellier, and discovered baseball while visiting his grandparents in Canada. Upon his return to France, he started playing baseball, and quickly discovered a love for the game. He then joined the Barracudas de Montpellier training center. He credits Lahcène Benhamida as a major influence during his time in Montpellier. For several years, Benhamida helped him improve his batting technique. Backing up Florian Peyrichou at 1B in the 2005 European Championship, he was 1 for 5 with a RBI.

Career

In the 2007 Division Elite season, he hit .345/.487/.483 with 19 runs in 17 games. As of the pre-olympic testing event in Beijing in 2007, he had played in 50 international games. He was 4 for 9 with 8 walks for the Barracudas in Division Elite in 2008.

Cros studied business at Thompson Rivers University, where he also played baseball from 2004-2008. For the 2006 season with the TRU Wolfpack, his batting average was .284 in 95 at bats and 129 plate appearances, had 27 hits, 22 runs, 14 K's and walked 26 times. For 2007, his avg went to a .299 in 77 at-bats and 98 PA, he had 23 hits, 18 runs, 5 K's and walked 17 times. In 2008, he was at a .425 avg in 127 at-bats and 166 PA's, with 54 hits, 51 runs, 5 K's and 33 walks.

He was then given a scholarship to Northwestern Oklahoma State University for 2009.

He played for the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Major Baseball League (a Canadian summer collegiate baseball league) in 2009. He was player of the week for June 24, 2009 after a good outing against the Lethbridge Bulls (4-5, 4 R, 5 RBI, HR, HBP. He was named MVP for the 2009 season.

Named in the 2009 #1 All-Canadian college team by Canadian Baseball Network (Bob Elliott): UPPER DECK XXXXII -- 2009 All-Canadian college team.

He calls Kamloops, BC his home while playing in Canada, otherwise he lives in Montpellier, France.

In 2010, Cros signed with Les Capitales de Québec, becoming the third French player to ink a deal with a US pro team, following Joris Bert and Frederic Hanvi. This does not include players from San Maarten who are also French citizens, such as Rene Leveret and Yamal Thomas. As of 2012, he is playing with the Barracudas de Montpellier, alongside his brother Gregory.
