Biographical Information[edit]

Joris Bert was the first French player ever chosen in the MLB amateur draft. He is the brother of Jordan Bert.

Bert spent 2005 and 2006 in Major League Baseball International's European Academy. He hit .395/?/.564 with 42 steals in 54 tries in 49 games as a center fielder in junior college in 2007. The Los Angeles Dodgers took him in the 19th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He debuted in late July for the GCL Dodgers but only hit .214/.361/.214 in 12 games and was caught stealing in both of his attempts.

He was 4 for 20 with 2 walks, 2 doubles and 5 runs for the second-place Rouen Huskies in the 2007 European Cup. Bert batted .167/.355/.167 for the French national team in the 2007 European Championship and struck out in 10 of 24 AB. He stole 2 bases in 3 tries and scored six runs, tied for the lead for France, which finished 4-4.

Bert hit .250/.414/.309 for the 2008 GCL Dodgers with only 3 steals in 7 tries; he had a .398 OBP after his first two minor league seasons. Bert then played for France in the 2008 European under-21 Championships, which he led with 6 steals.

Bert had hit .240/.398/.281 in 40 games in the US minors, but was released in mid-2009.
