Biographical Information

Remy Hermoso played for the Venezuelan national team in the 1963 Pan American Games and 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games; a year after the latter, he was in the majors. He starred for the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Venezuelan League in the 1960s and 1970s. In the major leagues, he was more often called Angel Hermoso, and in Venezuela he went by his full first name, Remigio. An injury ended his playing career at age 29. He then worked as a coach and manager, managing the Venezuelan squad that took part in the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas.

In the majors, he made his debut for the Atlanta Braves, playing 11 games for them at the tail end of the 1967 season at age 19. He was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 1969 expansion draft and played 28 games in their inaugural season, 1969, hitting just .168 as a back-up infielder. He spent most of that year in AAA with the Vancouver Mounties. He played with the Expos' AAA affiliate for the next three seasons, with the Buffalo Bisons/Winnipeg Whips in 1970, Winnipeg in 1971 and the Peninsula Whips in 1972, but his modest hitting kept him from returning to the Show except for a brief four-game stint at the start of the 1970 season.

After the 1972 season, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in return for minor leaguer Mike Carruthers. He had his longest major league stay with the Indians in 1974, when he played 48 games, hit .221 and scored 15 runs. He played in the Mexican League in 1975, with the Cardenales de Tabasco, then reappeared briefly with the Caracas Metropolitanos in the short-lived Inter-American League at the start of 1979, hitting .291 in 17 games.

He served on the municipal council of his hometown of Puerto Cabello, Carabobo and ran the local sports authority. He was elected to the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
