Biographical Information

Infielder Andy High began his baseball career with the Memphis Chicks in 1919. After hitting .321 in 1921, his contract was sold to the Brooklyn Robins. In 1924, he hit .328 and was fourth in the National League with 191 hits. He went on to play 13 years in the majors, all in the NL. He rarely ever struck out and ranks eleventh on the all-time list for fewest strikeouts per at-bats.

With the St. Louis Cardinals, High hit .294 in nine World Series games. In Game 7 of the 1931 Series, he had three of his club's five hits as the Cards won the world championship.

Prior to his baseball days, High served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. After his playing career ended, he managed in the minors and was a Brooklyn Dodgers coach in 1937 and 1938. He then scouted for the Dodgers from 1938 to 1942 and 1946 to 1963.

High was the brother of Charlie High and Hugh High.
