Biographical Information[edit]

Corner infielder Andy Bruce played four seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was drafted twice, first by the Oakland Athletics in the 8th round of the 1990 amateur draft and again in the 4th round of the 1991 amateur draft, by the Cardinals. Both times, he was coming out of Georgia Tech where he had an outstanding career highlighted by his hitting home runs in eight consecutive games in 1991, a feat later matched by Ryan Jackson of Duke University in 1994 but which is still an NCAA record. He hit 50 homers in his three seasons at the school, and batted .335, .363 and .345.

His professional career was not as brilliant as his college one. In his first professional season in 1991, he appeared with the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League and the Savannah Cardinals of the South Atlantic League, batting .256/.299/.456 in 70 games, with 10 homers and 48 RBIs. In 1992, he struggled badly with the St. Petersburg Cardinals of the Florida State League, putting up a line of .173/.225/.325 in 89 games. Moved down to Low-A in 1993, with the Springfield Cardinals, he bounced back to hit .256/.343/.470 in 105 games, with 21 homers and 70 RBIs. The Cardinals moved him up to AA in 1994, with the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League. However, he hit just .173 in 62 games, and never played professionally again after that.
