Biographical Information[edit]

Andrei Polstianov pitched for the Russian national team.

In the 1998 Baseball World Cup, he debuted against the Netherlands. Relieving Iouri Jirov with a 6-1 deficit in the 6th, he allowed five hits, three walks and six runs (four earned) in three innings while striking out two. His other outing, he was shelled by Nicaragua for 12 runs (all earned) on 15 hits in 4 1/3 IP. While his 20 hits allowed tied Jirov for the team lead, his 19.64 ERA was lower than Maxim Yudaev and Nikolai Petrov. [1] In the 1999 European Championship, he was 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA; his 8 K led Russia (two ahead of Anton Shirokiy). He got the win over Rickard Reimer and Sweden. He missed the event's top ten in K by one. [2]
