Biographical Information[edit]

AlexiAmarista.JPG

Alexi Amarista had one hit (a double) and three RBI in an 8-3 Los Angeles Angels win over the Oakland Athletics in his major league debut on April 26, 2011. He was hitting .455 with 16 RBI in 14 games for the Salt Lake Bees when he was called up.

Sometimes listed at 5'7" and sometimes at 5'8" (although he may be even shorter), he was not at first considered a top prospect, but things changed when he hit at every level he played in the minor leagues. Amarista was signed by scout Denny Suarez in 2007 and made his pro debut that summer for the DSL Angels.

Amarista was the Angels' minor league player of the year in 2009, playing for the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League. He hit .319/.390/.468 in 125 games that season, scoring 84 runs and banging out 39 doubles and 10 triples. He was named to the Midwest League All-Star team that year. He moved up three levels in 2010, starting with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the Class A California League, where he hit .303 in 72 games, and being promoted first to the Arkansas Travelers of the AA Texas League, where he hit .288 in 48 games, and finally to AAA Salt Lake, where he hit an even .400 in 15 games. Overall, his batting line was .309/.350/.421 in 135 games and he made the California League mid-season All-Star team.
