Biographical Information

Alexandre Periard pitched 6 minor league seasons and has appeared for Team Canada.

Periard was picked in the 16th round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He was signed by scout Jay Lapp and debuted professionally with the 2005 AZL Brewers, going 0-1 with a save and a 5.08 ERA with 43 hits allowed in 28 1/3 IP. In 2006, the teenager went 3-1 with a save and a 4.64 ERA for the AZL Brewers with better peripherals. Periard moved up to the West Virginia Power in 2007; there, he was 7-7 with 2 saves and a 3.55 ERA while missing a month due to an ear infection. He walked 21 in 109 innings. He joined Team Canada for the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament; their youngest pitcher, he was 2-0 with five scoreless innings. The statistics are a little deceptive as he only pitched against the tournament's two worst teams, South Africa and Spain, not being given work in crucial outings. He still tied for the most wins in the event, even with teammates Steve Green and Scott Richmond as well as Min-han Son, Kwang-hyun Kim, Chien-Ming Chiang and Chien-Fu Yang. Canada won a berth in the 2008 Olympics with their performance.
