Alexandre Baikov was the starting left fielder for the Ukrainian national team in their first European Championship game. In their opener of the 1995 European Championship, he hit 9th. He struck out once against the Netherlands and laid down one sacrifice bunt. He was 0 for 2 the next day versus France's Cedric Fournier and made an error in his only chance in the field before Valeri Semeniouk took over. He then pitched his other two outings. Relieving Gennadi Mahno in a loss to Germany, he went 2 2/3 IP (6 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 4 R, 4 ER) and was 0 for 1. He also finished up their loss to Sweden, with two shutout innings, allowing one hit and walking three. His 7.71 ERA was second on the Ukraine, behind Dmitri Breskin's 3.60. Next was Oleg Venger at 8.53.
