Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Alex Barrett was the fourth overall pick in the 1965 amateur draft, following Rick Monday, Les Rohr and Joe Coleman. He played seven seasons in the minors and reached as high as Triple-A, yet he never played in the major leagues.

Selected by the Houston Astros, Barrett began his career in their system in 1965, splitting the season between the FRL Astros and Cocoa Astros and hitting a combined .175 in 65 games. In 1966, he played for the Durham Bulls and hit only .178/.272/.231 with 90 strikeouts in 269 at-bats in 86 games. He fielded just .922 at shortstop and .925 at third base.

With the Asheville Tourists in 1967, Barrett improved a little by hitting .223/.301/.350, with six home runs and 25 RBI in 97 games. Now primarily at second base, he fielded .942 there. The following year, he hit .217 for the Greensboro Patriots, Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs and Oklahoma City 89ers.

He hit a career-high .230 in 1969 for the Savannah Senators and 89ers. In 1970, he hit .192 for the Raleigh-Durham Triangles, Columbus Astros and 89ers and in 1971, he hit .227 in 80 games for the Wisconsin Rapids Twins and Appleton Foxes. He played in the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins organizations in his final season.

Overall, Barrett hit .209 with 20 home runs in 563 games.
