Biographical Information[edit]

Albert Frimpong was introduced to baseball in Kinshasa in 1978, when his father was stationed with the Ghana delegation there. Making friends with the American Embassy kids, Frimpong learned about baseball, which was not played in Ghana at the time. In 1992, Frimpong set up the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association; he would become president in 2010. He helped organize donations of baseball equipment from Japan and later joined Jimmy Davies and Paul Kwesi Manoma in training with Japan's Fukuoka Daiei Hawks. In the 1999 All Africa Games, the Ghanaian national team played in their first major international tournament. Frimpong backed up Davies in center field, going 0 for 2, retired by Uganda's Henry Odong in a 27-6 win and South Africa's Wesley Botha in a 28-3 loss. Frimpong later set up a program for polio victims to become active in skating.
