Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Adrian Del Castillo made his major league debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 7, 2024 against the Cleveland Guardians in the second game of a doubleheader, filling in for an injured Gabriel Moreno. He collected his first career hit in that game, a double off Carlos Carrasco. The Diamondbacks had drafted him in the second round of the 2021 amateur draft, out of the University of Miami. He hit his first career homer in his next game, on August 9th, and it was a walk-off shot off Jeff Hoffman of the Philadelphia Phillies in the bottom of the 9th, giving Arizona a 3-2 win. He was not done in terms of highlights, however, as he hit his first career grand slam in just his ninth game, on August 19th against Adam Oller of the Miami Marlins. He collected six RBIs in the D-Backs'9-6 win that day, giving him 14 for the season; only Mitchell Page had ever done better, getting 15 RBIs in his first nine games with the 1977 Oakland Athletics, while Adrian was tied with Dale Alexander of the 1929 Detroit Tigers.
