9 is the number of innings in a baseball game, not counting extra innings. It is also the number of players in the batting order. A team that wins by forfeit is credited with a 9-0 victory.
When keeping score, 9 represents the right fielder.
In addition to the players listed below, the 2000 Montreal Expos wore a black armband with number 9 in honor of hockey great Maurice Richard, who wore the number with the Montreal Canadiens and passed away during the season.
For a few seasons, Benito Santiago wore the number 09.
