1993 Italian Series

The 1993 Italian Series was won by C.F.C. Nettuno. They beat reigning champions Telemarket Rimini in the final to win their 13th Serie A1 crown.

Nettuno had gone 26-10 to finish second in the regular season to get a first-round bye then swept Guadianello Bologna in the semifinals. They were led at the plate by former major leaguer RF Jessie Reid (.426/.558/.907, 41 BB, 45 R, 42 RBI, a league-leading 18 HR in 36 G) and CF Roberto De Franceschi (.383/.450/.494, 38 R in 36 G). Former big leaguer Bob Galasso (10-3, Sv, 2.32, 137 K in 128 IP) led the league in ERA; Massimiliano Masin (5-1, 1.96) was better but did not qualify for the ERA title.

Rimini was 21-15 to tie for third in the regular season. They beat Serie A2 champion Macerata in the quarterfinals (at that point, the top two A2 teams qualified for the A1 postseason) and then upset #1 seed Cariparma Angels 3-1 in the semifinals. DH Giuseppe Carelli hit .333/.432/.496 and UT Terry Lee .351/.402/.545. Dave Masters (4-3, 2.35), Fernando Figueroa (4-5, 2.31) and Roberto Cabalisti (9-3, 2.82, a league-leading four saves) led the pitchers.

In the Series, Rimini took game 1 4-1 on October 8 but the next day Nettuno won, 5-1. On October 15, Nettuno won 3-2 to take a 2-1 edge, but Rimini forced a final game with a 8-2 romp on the 16th. On October 17, Nettuno locked it up with a 4-1 win. In the finals, Reid had hit .250/.550/.550, 3B Massimo Ciaramella .389/.389/.500 and 1B Guglielmo Trinci had gone 3 for 7 with a double. Claudio Taglienti had a 1-0, 1.00 record and Galasso 1-1, 3.00. For Rimini, Carelli had hit .412/.500/.529 in the finals and SS Andrea Evangelisti (.350/.458/.350) had scored six runs. Masters (1-1, 1.50) and Maurizio De Sanctis (1-0, 2.25) had pitched well for them.
