1957 Junior World Series

The 1957 Junior World Series was the 41st meeting between the champions of the American Association and International League. The Denver Bears had won the American Association playoffs by beating the Minneapolis Millers and St. Paul Saints, while the Buffalo Bisons won the International League's Governors' Cup for the first time since 1936.

Denver would win the series in five games, winning their first JWS in franchise history.

Denver used its thin air to advantage for a 16-run first game, knocking around six Bison hurlers. Ray Herbert didn't make it out of the first for Buffalo. Denver then took the second game 9-1 behind a four-hitter by Ryne Duren. In game 3, Buffalo got closer but lost again, 13-9.

With game four in the lower-offense environment of Buffalo, the Bears were held to one run and five hits by Glenn Cox as the Bisons took their only decision. Before 11,468 home fans, they lost the finale, 8-1, as Ben Flowers went the distance for the Bears for his second win.

Johnny Blanchard hit .429 with 8 RBI for Denver while Jim Pisoni batted .381 with 7 RBI. Rod Graber batted .368 for Buffalo.
