Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Ángel Martínez is the son of former major league catcher Sandy Martinez. His brother, Sandy Martinez Jr., played in the minor leagues from 2017-2019.
He was signed by the Cleveland Indians as an international amateur free agent on July 2, 2018 and made his professional debut the next year with the DSL Indians. By the time he reached the majors in 2024, the Cleveland team had been renamed the "Guardians". In his debut on June 23rd, he started at designated hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays, going 0 for 3 with a strikeout in a 6-3 win. He started at third base the next day and got his first base hit, a single off Yusei Kikuchi, in his first at-bat in the 2nd inning.
