Biographical Information[edit]
The son of former minor leaguer and big league scout Steve McAllister, pitcher Zach McAllister was selected by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Lemke and began his pro career that summer.
In 2010, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians to complete a deal that sent Austin Kearns to the Yankees. He was recalled by the Indians in July 2011 and made his debut on July 7th, going 4 innings and getting no decision in a start against the Toronto Blue Jays. He went 0-1, 6.11 in 4 starts that first season, then was a starter for most of the next for the Indians year the next two seasons. In 2012, he went 6-8, 4.24 in 22 starts, pitching 125 1/3 innings, and in 2013, he was 9-9, 3.75 in 24 games, with 134 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 110 batters in 2012, and 101 in 2013.
McAllister had the worst start of his career on May 16, 2014, when he was banged up for 8 runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics in an 11-1 loss. He had started the season with three wins, but had gone 0-4, 8.72 in his next five starts.
