Koga represented Japan in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, hitting .222/.318/.278, handling 77 chances error-free and throwing out 3 of 6 who tried to steal. [1] He was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the first round of the 2021 NPB draft, but he spent his rookie season primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, only playing 26 games with a .155 batting average with the big club. [2] When Tomoya Mori signed with the Orix Buffaloes, Koga was named their new starting catcher, and he hit .218/.294/.301 with 2 homers.[3]
The Fukuoka native then made it onto Japan's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He debuted against Australia and drew two walks. He then pinch-hit for Shota Morishita against South Korea in the Gold Medal game, and laid down a sacrifice bunt in the 10th inning. Japan beat South Korea and won Gold. [4]
