Biographical Information[edit]
Yutaka Ashikaga pitched in the NPB and CPBL.
Ashikaga was drafted by the Daiei Hawks in the 5th round of the 1990 NPB draft, and he had a 4.95 ERA in 11 appearances in 1991. He went 5-5 with a 4.22 ERA in 1992, and he was 6-13 with a 4.24 ERA in 1993. He was 5th in losses in the Pacific League in the '93 season, 2 behind Kazumi Sonokawa. Ashikaga then had a 3.89 ERA in 13 games in 1994, but he suffered from a left shoulder injury, so he only pitched one more game for the big club until the Hawks released him in 1997. The Yokohama BayStars picked him up, but he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues for the entire 1998 season and he was released. Ashikaga then signed with the Mercuries Tigers of Taiwan, and he had a 1.32 ERA with 2 saves in 7 games in 1999. He announced his retirement after that season.
Overall, Ashikaga was 13-20 with a 4.37 ERA, struck out 155 and pitched 303 innings in 5 years in NPB.
