Biographical Information[edit]
Yusuke Matsui played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Matsui was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 4th round of the 2009 NPB draft, and he was 16-for-55 in his first season. He only played 4 games with the big club in 2011, and his batting line was .231/.231/.338 in 2012. Matsui hit .173/.198/.247 in 43 games in 2013, and he recorded a .250/.280/.385 batting line in 2014. He only got 56 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, and he hit .277/.328/.437 with 4 homers in 2017. Matsui was mainly placed in the minors again in the next two seasons, and he was traded with Steven Moya and Masato Matsui to the Orix Buffaloes for Kengo Takeda and Takahiro Matsuba. Matsui went 11-for-53 in 2020, and he announced his retirement. He was the assistant batting coach for Orix in 2021, and he became their fielding coach in 2022.
Overall, Matsui hit .233/.257/.331 with 140 hits and 9 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
