Biographical Information[edit]

Yuki Kaseda pitched in the US and Japan.

Kaseda was a second-round pick of the Yakult Swallows in the 1987 NPB draft out of high school. He spent five years in their organization, but only made it to the big club briefly, tossing five games in 1989 (4 R, 3 ER in 6 2/3 IP on 7 H, 4 BB, with 3 K). He spent most of that year farmed out to the US, where he went 10-8 (on a team whose other hurlers were a combined 41-83) with two saves and a 2.82 ERA for the Salinas Spurs, fanning 167 in 169 1/3 IP. He was among the California League leaders in complete games (8, tied for second with Don Vidmar), shutouts (3, tied for 5th) and strikeouts (2nd, 6 behind leader Willie Banks and 7 ahead of #3 Joe Slusarski, both of whom would pitch in the majors).
