Biographical Information[edit]

Willie Banks was signed by the Minnesota Twins and scout Ed Dunn as a 1st round pick (3rd overall) in the 1987 amateur draft. He threw a complete game no-hitter against the Palm Springs Angels while pitching for the Visalia Oaks on May 24, 1989. That season, he led the California League with 173 strikeouts and 22 wild pitches. In nine big league seasons, Willie finished at 33-39 with a 4.75 ERA and 428 strikeouts in 181 games (84 starts) and 610 1/3 innings. Perhaps his finest moment in the bigs came on May 24, 1994, when, with the Chicago Cubs, he shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 2-0 four-hitter at Dodger Stadium.
