Yuji Akahoshi has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Akahoshi was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the third round of the 2021 NPB draft. .[1] He joined the rotation in his rookie year, and he had a 5-5 record with a 4.04 ERA in 31 games (12 starts). He was moved to the bullpen in the middle of the season, so he also collected 5 holds. Akahoshi was a full-time starter in 2023, and he was 5-5 with a 3.39 ERA. He then made it onto Japan's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. Akahoshi started against Chinese Taipei in the opener, and he threw 4 2/3 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts; Masaki Oyokawa relieved him. Japan beat South Korea in the title game and won Gold.[2]
Akahoshi's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 94.4 mph, a slider, curveball, cutter and a forkball.[3]
