Biographical Information[edit]

Yuan-Chin Chu played in the CPBL for 9 years.

Chu represented Taiwan in the 2004 World Junior Championship (.417/.483/.562), 2007 World Port Tournament, 2008 Haarlemse Honkbalweek and 2008 World University Championship (.217/.379/.248, tied for 4th with 5 walks). The Uni-President Lions selected him in the third round of the 2009 CPBL Draft, and he hit .297/.427/.410 in minors while leading the league in walks in 2010. Chu then recorded a .261/.363/.345 batting line in 2011, and he went 0-for-3 in the 2011 Taiwan Series. The Lions beat the Lamigo Monkeys in 5 games, and Chu won his first title. He batted .233/.356/.342 in 2012, and he was mainly placed in the minors so he only played 33 games combined with the big club.

The New Taipei native got some chances as Wu-Hsiung Pan and Fu-Hao Liu were both injured in 2015, and he had a .272/.343/.364 batting line in 73 games. After Pan and Liu came back, Chu was demoted again in 2016. He shined in the minors as he hit .309/.403/.510 with 5 homers, and he won a spot in the outfield in 2016. Chu played 81 games in 2017, and his batting line was .277/.370/.455. However, he slumped to .211/.303/.274 in 2018, and he only played 23 games with a .167/.364/.310 batting line in 2019. Chu announced his retirement after the 2019 season, and he became the minor league fielding coach for the Lions.

Overall, Chu hit .254/.353/.367 with 255 hits, 45 doubles and 18 homers in 9 seasons in the CPBL.
