Biographical Information[edit]

Young-soo Kang played in the Olympics and 10 years in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Kang played for the South Korean national team in the 1987 Intercontinental Cup and 1988 Olympics. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he hit .286/.333/.571 with 14 RBI in 11 games as the South Korean third baseman, fielding .893. He tied for 6th in the event in RBI, behind Robin Ventura (well ahead with 32), Luis Casanova, Tino Martinez, Omar Linares and Victor Mesa.

Kang made his pro debut in 1989 with the Samsung Lions, hitting .145/.279/.274. He batted .237/.315/.409 in 1990. Moving to the OB Bears, Young-soo produced at a .238/.351/.436 rate in '91. He hit .217/.353/.419 in 1992 with 77 walks and 18 home runs. Kang batted .221/.328/.381 in 1993 and .213/.288/.320 in '94.

Kang joined his third club in 1995, the Taepyungyang Dolphins, hitting .243/.338/.441 with 21 home runs. He also played in the 1995 Asian Championship. He went 12 for 72 with 3 doubles, a homer and 14 walks for the 1996 Hyundai Unicorns. Next, he joined the 1997 Ssangbangwool Raiders and was 18 for 86 with 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 12 walks. In '98, Kang hit .226/.338/.343.

Overall, Kang batted .222/.329/.392 with 86 homers and 311 RBI in 2,092 AB over 828 games.
