Biographical Information[edit]
Young-jin Kim played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 6 years.
Kim played for South Korea in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup. He was 0-for-1 with a walk and handled 7 chances error-free, backing up Soo-hyuk Im at catcher. The Samsung Lions selected him in the first round of the 1995 KBO draft, and he hit .161/.250/.161 in 36 games in his first season. Kim still struggled at the plate as he only hit .134/.178/.161 in 1996, then he recorded a .167/.257/.289 batting line in 1997. He hit .180/.240/.236 in 1998, and he played 97 games with a .138/.185/.191 batting line in 1999. When Dong-soo Kim joined the team in 2000, Kim completely lost his spot, and he stayed in the minors for the entire season. The Lions then traded him with Jeong-kwon Cho to the Hanwha Eagles for Seong-kon Kim, and he announced his retirement after going 2-for-11 in 2001.
Overall, Kim hit .155/.220/.216 with 111 hits and 5 homers in 6 seasons in the KBO.
