Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshio Gomi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Gomi set the Summer Koshien record when he collected 5 steals in a game against Seido High School in 1935. Nagoya Kinko signed him in 1936 but he didn't get many chances due to his poor batting, only playing 45 games combined with the big club in his first two seasons. He was the first NPB player from Yamanashi Prefecture. Gomi hit .238/.361/.369 in spring in 1938, but slumped to .168/.309/.204 in fall. The speedy infielder still struggled on the plate, only hit .191/.334/.225 in 1939. On the other hand, Gomi shined between the bases, and stole 30 bases to tie Den Yamada for the Japanese Professional Baseball League steals lead. His batting line was still terrible at .192/.346/.222 in 1941, and he jumped to the Asahi team because Kinko was expelled. He still only batted .194/.322/.228 and .183/.321/.203 respectively the next two seasons, then the World War II disrupted his career. After the War, Gomi returned to the team in 1948, but he only had one appearance then announced his retirement.
Overall, Gomi had hit .193/.330/.233 with 254 hits and 114 steals in 8 seasons in NPB.
