Biographical Information[edit]

Yen-Feng Chen played in the CPBL for 8 years.

Chen was drafted by the La New Bears in the fifth round of the 2008 CPBL Draft, and he spent his rookie season in the CPBL minor league.[1] He hit .311/.367/.421 there in 2009, and he was named the starting shortstop in 2010 with his elite defense. Chen hit .251/.271/.299 with 18 steals in his rookie year, and he was also selected into the 2010 CPBL All-Star Game; he was 0-for-4. He ranked 6th in steals, 13 behind Da-Hung Cheng. Chen was still the starting shortstop in 2011, and he hit .244/.289/.256 in 96 games. He was 3-for-11 in the 2011 Taiwan Series, but the Monkeys were beaten by the Uni-President Lions in 5 games.

After losing the championship, manager I-Chung Hong decided to move Chih-Sheng Lin back to shortstop because of Chen's weak offense. He only played 35 games as a backup, and his batting line was .191/.247/.250 in 2012. Chen was on Monkeys' roster for the 2012 Taiwan Series, but he didn't have any at-bats; the Monkeys beat the Lions in 5 games. Chen struggled in 2013 as his batting line was .188/.200/.234, then he bounced back and hit .271/.274/.313 in 2014. He was 1-for-4 in the 2014 Taiwan Series, and the Monkeys beat the CTBC Brothers in 5 games. However, since the Monkeys had plenty of talented infielders, Chen didn't have many chances. He only played 32 games with a .256/.286/.359 batting line in 2015, then hit .268/.278/.324 in 36 games in 2016. He stayed in the minor league for nearly the entire 2017 season, and he announced his retirement. Chen was the defense coach for the minor league team of the Monkeys from 2018 to 2020, then started to coach their big club in 2021.[2]

Overall, Chen hit .244/.271/.284 with 244 hits in 8 seasons in CPBL.
