Biographical Information[edit]
Woody Crowson played nine seasons from 1938 to 1947, appearing on the roster of eight teams. On April 17, 1945, he made his lone appearance in the bigs for the Philadelphia A's. He pitched three innings, allowing two hits and two runs. His nine seasons in the minors showed a 82-68 record in 224 games. His best years were with the 1942 Thomasville Tommies of the Class D North Carolina State League, when he went 17-7 with a 1.60 ERA, and 1944, going 12-6 with a 2.41 ERA for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League. Crowson died at 28 on August 14, 1947, in a tragic accident where the team bus he was riding sideswiped a watermelon truck in Mayodan, NC. He was the only fatality.
