Wilberforce University, named after the prominent British abolitionist William Wilberforce, produced several major leaguers during the Negro League era, but the only post-integration player was Bus Clarkson, whose best days had been in the Negro Leagues. It was announced that a partnership with the Cincinnati Reds would result in Wilberforce sponsoring a baseball team in 2023 for the first time since before WWII.
