Biographical Information

Pitcher Wesley Wright drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 7th round of the 2003 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Clarence Johns anbd maed his pro debut that summer.

Wright was selected by the Houston Astros from the Dodgers in the 2007 Rule V Draft. He made his debut on Opening Day 2008 pitching a third of an inning in relief against the San Diego Padres.

On August 23, 2011, Wright got to play right field for a third of an inning in a game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. After Wright began the 8th inning by retiring Carlos Gonzalez, manager Brad Mills brought in righthander David Carpenter to face Troy Tulowitzki and sent Wright to RF, a position he had not played since high school, taking over for Brian Bogusevic. After Tulowitzki made an out, Wright returned to the mound, while J.B. Shuck took over in right field and Carpenter left the game. Wright struck out Todd Helton to end the inning. Mills used that strategy again on July 27, 2012, this time with Wilton Lopez taking over for a batter while Wright moved to right field with one out in the 8th inning in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. That batter, Andrew McCutchen, doubled to center, then Wright returned and got the last two outs of the inning without allowing McCutchen to score. The Astros had a 5-4 lead at that point, but the Bucs came back for two runs against Rhiner Cruz after Wright had opened the 9th by striking out Pedro Alvarez, handing the Astros their 11th straight loss.

Wright joined the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent before the 2015 season but made only two appearances out of the bullpen before going on the disabled list with a muscle strain on April 11th. The problem forced him to miss the remainder of the first half, and when he was ready to return after the All-Star break, the Orioles designated him for assignment.
