The first professional baseball club from Waxahachie, TX was the Waxahachie Buffaloes. The Buffaloes played in the new Central Texas League in 1914. Managed first by Luther Burleson and then Dee Poindexter, they won the first-half title at 26-15 then slipped to 9-8 in the second half. In the playoffs they won 3 of 5 games against the team from West. The club had batting champion Raines (.349) and also got help at the plate from Shaffer. In 1915 they were renamed the Waxahachie Athletics.
