Biographical Information

Wyatt "Watty" Lee was a two-way player who appeared in 150 games in the majors in the outfield and 76 games as pitcher.

He broke in at age 21 in 1901 with the Washington Senators as primarily a pitcher, then played both positions a lot in 1902-1903 and in 1904, with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he only pitched. In 1901, he was the youngest player on his team. His sixteen wins that year were the second-most of the starting staff.

He was with the Toledo Mud Hens in 1904 and 1905, hitting over .300 each time.

Much later in his career, he spent parts of six seasons with Newark. He was the star pitcher of the 1913 Newark Bears, a team which also featured the 20-year-old pitcher Al Schacht.

Lee is one of only two players remembered with the first name "Watty". His real first name was Wyatt. The other player, Watty Clark, had the middle name Watson, from which Watty was presumably derived.
