Between serving as the Waterbury Giants and Waterbury Reds, Waterbury, CT spent one year with the Oakland A's system as the 1979 Waterbury A's. With Ed Nottle at the helm, the A's finished last in the Eastern League in both halves, posting a composite record of 49-91, 14 and a half games worse than any other club in the EL that year. They scored the fewest runs (543) and only Buffalo, NY allowed more than the 720 they gave up. Dave Beard (10-14, 3.42) led the league with 191 innings and 20 complete games, while posting the 4th-best ERA. Leading the offense was DH Kelvin Moore, who hit .334/~.374/.546.
