Walter Bellis
Walter Sutphin Bellis
Biographical Information[edit]
Walter Bellis played in the minor leagues for 3 years as a third baseman, starting off with the Lawrence Colts in 1909. While he was with Lawrence, he was a teammate of Eddie Ainsmith, who went on to become Walter Johnson's preferred catcher years later.
Bellis's stat page is incomplete, though it does not appear that he was a very strong hitter.
In 1910, he became a player-manager for the Middletown Jewels following Tom Bannon's departure from the team. He joined the Wilmington Chicks in 1911, who were managed by none other than his old teammate and manager, Tom Bannon.
Bellis lived a long life and died 44 days after his 90th birthday in 1976.
