Biographical Information[edit]

Waldo Gonzalez played eight years in the minors (1952-1961), losing one year to the Military and another to a suspension. He served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War (1954) (PD).

In 1959 Jesse Levan was banned from baseball for life for allegedly cooperating with gamblers in the "foul ball hitting" scandal in the Southern Association. Testimony from teammate Sammy Meeks was the bellweather action of the case. Gonzalez, their teammate, was suspended for a year but resumed his career in 1961. He played parts of four seasons in AAA, in the American Association with the Louisville Colonels, Omaha Cardinals and Houston Buffs and in the Pacific Coast League with the Salt Lake City Bees.
