Biographical Information

Vince Sherlock has one of the highest batting averages of all time for a major league player with at least 15 at-bats. He hit .462 in the only 26 at-bats he had in the majors, in 1935. Only two players with 15+ at-bats ever did better.

He was a second baseman who made 4 errors in his 8 games in the field.

His brother was Monk Sherlock, who also had a one-season career in the majors, but who had 299 at-bats with a .324 average.

When Vince joined the 1935 Brooklyn Dodgers, manager Casey Stengel was using Tony Cuccinello at second base with Jimmy Jordan as the backup. The next year, Cuccinello was gone, and Jimmy Jordan played second as the regular, hitting .234. It was Jordan's last year in the majors.

He played for Mission in the PCL in 1931-33, Indianapolis in 1934-38, for Louisville in 1939-40, Syracuse in 1941 and for Montreal in 1942.
